HONOLULU — Neighbor Island programs of Catholic Charities Hawai‘i will each receive $35,000 grants from the McInerny Foundation. The three grants — for Kaua‘i, Maui and the Big Island — will help expand resources for existing programs on each of the islands.
The McInerny grants were presented to the CCH neighbor island community directors during a special check presentation, states a CCH press release.
On Kaua‘i, the money will enable the Community Assistance Program to provide food, clothing, emergency housing and utility expenses to those in need.
Maui’s Financial Advocacy Services for Seniors program, which provides money management assistance to seniors 55 and older, will use the grant to help seniors remain independent in the community and avoid financial exploitation or institutionalization.
The McInerny grant will assist CCH programs on the Big Island by implementing a community empowerment project called Sharing a Mission, the release states. CCH programs on the Big Island provide help for youth with emotional and behavioral challenges, seniors in need of long-term care, homeless families and newly arrived and economically disadvantaged immigrants. The Sharing a Mission project will help increase the community’s awareness and understanding of CCH’s mission, and how the community can become an active part of the mission, the release states.
