Shaun Smith of Falko Partners made a special trip to the Lihu‘e Bowling Center Thursday.
Carrying a special envelope, Smith was greeted by Kaua‘i Special Olympics coordinator Jocelyn Barriga, Special Olympics athletes on a class field trip and the three Kaua‘i Police Department officers who recently spent three days and two nights on the roof of Safeway in Waipouli to raise funds for the Kaua‘i Special Olympics.
Detective Mike Gordon, Sgt. Ezra Kanoho and Lt. Hank Barriga watched the Special Olympic athletes hone their skills in anticipation of an upcoming bowling tournament.
Smith presented Jocelyn Barriga with a check for $10,000 on behalf of Falko Partners, bringing the total Cop on Top fund-raising effort to $27,712, exceeding the goal of $25,000.
“We are proud that we were there when they first started the Cop on Top event three years ago,” Smith said. “It’s a good program and when you see the athletes, how can you not help them?”
The Oct. 14 bowling tournament is a qualifier for the state tournament on O‘ahu in November, said Darryl Izumo of the Lihu‘e Bowling Center.
“There will be over 90 Special Olympic bowlers here from 9 a.m.,” Barriga said. “People are welcome to come down and cheer them on.”
