Duncan MacDonald scored two goals as Kryptonite staved off a strong Hanalei effort in the second half to post a 3-2 win last week.
MacDonald opened the books by lobbing the ball over Hanalei keeper Parker Blaylock for the opening goal and followed it up by poking in a second score after taking a corner kick by Kyle Strickland.
Hanalei’s Cola Lindeman took a pass in the box and tucked it away to cut the lead to one at the half.
Keoni Nakano upped the Kryptonite lead in the second half on a breakaway, but Hanalei answered on a Lindeman pass to Chris Almadova who fired from outside the 18 to bring Hanalei back within one.
Hanalei kept up the pressure in the final five minutes, but came up empty in the first of two games played at Hanapepe Stadium for the men’s soccer league.
The nightcap saw Afterburners score all of their five goals in the second half despite firing off 14 shots-on-goal in the first half.
Cane Fires’ goalie Marc Perales kept the score deadlocked at 0-0 despite the Afterburners’ peppering.
Eli Emery finally broke the ice on a one-timer, followed by Ashley Vidinha cashing in on a goalie deflection. Alika Parks nailed the third score off the crossbar and into the net.
Danny Riggle notched the fourth goal from 20 yards out to the right panel. Jameson Kosier scored the final goal of the night on a cross from Drew DesMarias.
Afterburners’ defense kept the Cane Fires’ shot-on-goals to a minimum with defender Leroy Emery making a goal-saving header to preserve the shutout for goalie Darren Kosen.
