HANAPEPE — Koloa controls the JPW division of Kaua‘i Pop Warner following the third week of play Saturday.
Koloa JPW holds a 2-0 record followed by Hanapepe (1-1-1), Lihu‘e (1-0-1), Kekaha (1-1) and Kapa‘a (0-3).
Kapa‘a and Hanapepe share the lead in the PeeWee division with identical 2-1 records followed by Koloa (2-0) and Lihu‘e (0-2) and Kekaha (0-2).
Lihu‘e (2-0) remains undefeated in the Midget division followed by Hanapepe (2-1), Kapa‘a (1-2), Kekaha (1-1), and Koloa (0-2).
Midget Hanapepe 22,
Kapa‘a 8
A fourth quarter touchdown kept the Kapa‘a Eagles from being shut down as Keoni Kinzie scooted 12 yards for the score.
A point-after boot by Zaimana Fernandez with 9:53 showing accounted for the 22-8 final math.
Hanapepe struck twice in the second quarter and added a score in the third quarter as Taylen Acoba led the blackshirts’ effort with two touchdowns.
Acoba pulled in a Torrey Santiago pass for a 33-yard score with a minute left in the half and charged for a 3-yard score with 2:51 left in the third quarter.
Santiago, the Hanapepe signal caller, opened up the scorebooks on a 9-yard touchdown with 5:01 showing in the second quarter and embellished the Hanapepe scoring with two of three point-after kicks.
Midget Kekaha 16,
Koloa 6
Tresen Lacaden lit the fuse for Kekaha in the second quarter on a 53-yard runback of a pass interception to open the scorebooks with 9:01 showing in the half.
Koloa answered with Isaac Tehero capping a scoring drive on a 1-yard plunge to paydirt with 8:10 showing.
But Kekaha was not done as Tylan Remata answered on a 3-yard scoring charge. Kele Hanohano delivered his second successful point-after kick with 3:57 left in the half for the 16-6 advantage.
Koloa answered in the third period as Tehero found Vincent Baloran in the end zone for an 11-yard score. Both point-after kick attempts failed for Koloa in the 16-12 final.
PW Koloa by forfeit
over Kekaha
Contest was forfeited by Kekaha as they could not field 16 players for the game.
PW Hanapepe 12,
Kapa’a 6
Conner Chandler came up with a 70-yard punt return with 6:46 showing in the game to keep the Kapa’a PeeWees from being shut out.
Nohili Kahepu’u pulled in a 29-yard pass from Keoni Ana with 4:39 showing in the half to open the scorebooks for Hanapepe with Mikeo Rita adding another touchdown in the third quarter for their 12-6 win.
JPW Hanapepe 25,
Kapa’a 6
Defense was in the Hanapepe limelight in their 25-6 win over the Kapa’a JPW Following a special teams effort that saw Kamalei Compoc Dela Cruz return a punt return 22 yards for a score. He also recovered a fumble for a 26-yard score in the third period for the 12-0 Hanapepe nod.
Kaikea Sonoda added to the Hanapepe scoring on a 6-yard run with 3:58 showing in the third quarter and Cy Corona plucked the Eagles for a 45-yard return of a pass interception.
After failing three times in the point-after attempts, Derek Callejo ran the pigskin in for the 25-0 lead with 5:35 showing in the game.
But Kapa’a broke open Edsel Lactaotao on a 53-yard romp to the end zone with 3:19 for the final math.
JPW Koloa 24,
Kekaha 6
Trey Aguano threw for two touchdowns and the Rapacons added two more scores as Koloa controlled Kekaha 24-6.
Aguano found Tystin Gummerus and Kalawai’a Judd in the first quarter for two scores on 8 and 24-yard receptions, respectively for the 12-0 lead.
Kyren Rapacon broke for a 54-yard score and Kyrus Rapapcon added to the margin on a hit to Triston Bukoski for an 8-yard scoring pass with 1:37 showing in the third quarter.
Acetyn Emayo scored in the last minute as he found the end zone with :48 showing for Kekaha.
Saturday’s games will be played at Hanapepe Stadium with Kapa’a tangling with Koloa starting at 8 a.m.
Kekaha hosts Lihu’e in the afternoon series starting at 2:30 p.m.
