Kaua‘i girls outscore boys

KAPA‘A — Casey Shimokawa improved her performance from last week, finishing with a 247 (90-86-71) to lead Kaua‘i High School Thursday.
Kaua‘i swept its KIF air riflery matches over Kapa‘a to join Waimea High School who were also victorious in their matches against Island School.
“I was worried about them today,” Kaua‘i coach Douglas Nobriga said. “They weren’t doing that well all week in practice so I was just hoping they would do okay.”
Shimokawa’s performance was 11 points better than last week as the Red Raider lady shooters outgunned Kapa‘a 1,179-1,032 in team points.
Grant Fujimoto attracted the attention of the Kapa‘a coaches as he finished his phases quickly and accurately. Fujimoto topped the victorious Kaua‘i boys with a total 231 (92-78-61). Kaua‘i garnered 1,133 team points over Kapa‘a’s 1,078 points.
“The Kaua‘i girls outshot their boys for the second week in a row,” said Kapa‘a coach Jerald Knudsen. “This week they had two girls who were in the 240s.”
During the Red Raiders’ match against Waimea last week, Kaua‘i girls outscored the boys 1,159-1,142.
David Kalauawa topped the Waimea boys with a 232 (80-86-66) to lead the Menehune to a 1,144-1,046 victory in team points.
Michelle Woltmon, an Island School veteran markswoman, topped the lady shooters at Hanapepe Armory with a 243 (86-88-69), but Waimea took the girls competition with 1,056 team points over Island School’s 1,032 points.
Top Menehune girl was Beverly Grande, who led the relay with 228 (90-78-60) points.
Other Kaua‘i girls who counted in the scoring include Liane Muraoka (85-84-77-246), Maureen Sibolboro (83-81-73-237), Charissa Riofta (86-82-64-232) and Megan Rasay (78-69-70-217).
Kapa‘a women were led by Marie Joy Agacid (83-83-57-223), Alma Iglesia (69-76-55-200), Camden Lorenz (88-70-55-213), Kirstie Pascual (86-73-35-194) and Heather Walker (84-75-43-202).
Following Fujimoto, the other Red Raider men who counted in the scoring include Jason Cabot (87-80-63-230), Aaron Braun (84-80-65-229), Elliott Yamamoto (83-84-59-226) and Cody Navarro (84-74-59-217).
Terrence Cuyo led the Kapa‘a boys with a 192 (74-59-59) total, followed by Jonathan Ganir (82-75-57-214), Rustam Klutke (83-62-71-216), Ian Ramos (90-73-66-229) and Max Vendervort (84-85-58-227).
Other Waimea girls who counted in their win include Syanne Sagawa (83-81-59-223), Kelly Joyce (85-69-54-208), Ceci Sun (73-76-50-199) and BreAnn Abuan (80-75-43-198).
Following Kalauawa, other Waimea boys who counted in the scoring include Kekoa Masuda (79-82-70-231), Jared Coleman-Stark (87-77-66-230), Kevin Aguilar (86-70-71-227) and Bronson Koki (81-79-64-224).
Justin Pelton (85-86-51-222) topped the Island Schools boys’ team, followed by Skyler Workman (84-78-54-216), Trevor Bloom (81-66-60-207), Carlos Maibeth (90-53-60-203) and Erik Talvi (89-68-41-198).
Following Woltmon’s performance, other Island School women who counted in the scoring include Sky Smith (85-68-63-216), Maddisen Domingo (74-9-43-196), Richelle Ridenour (79-74-36-189) and Destiny Detreaux (81-56-51-188).
Waimea travels to Kapa‘a High School Thursday while Kaua‘i High visits the Island School range the same day. Matches start at 3 p.m.
