John Silva Sr.
John Silva Sr. of Lawa‘i, Kaua‘i died at Wilcox Memorial Hospital on Sept. 8, 2006 at the age of 59. Born in Kiloa, Kaua‘i on Dec. 21, 1946, he was a retired equipment operator with the State Forestry Division. Preceeded in death by his parents Tony and Madeline Silva, father-in-law Louis Pontes Jr. and brother-in-law Leonard Manguchei. He is survived by his wife, Diana Silva (Pontes); son, John Jr. (Shamara) Silva of Koloa; three daughters, Christina (Lono) Silva of Lawa‘i, Jocelyn Silva of Koloa and Pamela Silva (Wesley) of Koloa; eight grandchildren; two brothers, Anthony (Joyce) Silva of Lawa‘i and Jospeh Silva of New York; two sisters, Aileen (Francis) Brun of Kalaheo and Marie Manguchei of Wailua Homesteads; numerous uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, cousins and in-laws. Also survived by mother-in-law Eleanor Pontes of Kalaheo; brothers- and sisters-in-law Brenda (John) Gebauer of Lihu‘e, Linda (Kevin) Kelekoma of Lihu‘e, Sharlene (Paul) Barba of Kekaha, Louis (Michi) Pontes III of Kalaheo, Lisa Pontes of Koloa and Karen (Kimo) Akita of Kalaheo. Friends may visit with the family from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 23 at the Holy Cross Catholic Church in Kalaheo; mass to be celebrated at 11:30 a.m., followed by burial at the Lihu‘e Cemetery. Casual attire is suggested.
