KEKAHA — A 44-year-old Waimea man is in critical but stable condition after nearly drowning at Kekaha Beach yesterday morning.
Shortly after lifeguards came on duty at 9:30 a.m., beachgoers informed them that a man was in distress in the water about 60 yards from the lifeguard tower, said county public information officer Mary Daubert.
The lifeguards pulled the man out of the rolling shore break and revived him with CPR.
He was first transported to Kaua‘i Veterans Memorial Hospital via ambulance, and later evacuated to Queen’s Medical Center on O‘ahu yesterday afternoon.
