Lourdes Valdez Gonzalez
Lourdes Valdez Gonzalez died at St. Jude Hospital in Los Angeles, Calif. on Aug. 24, 2006, at the age of 79.
Born in Santa Rosa, Ilocos Norte, Philippines on July 26, 1927, she was a former Hanama‘ulu resident. Preceded in death by her husband, Urciso Gonzalez, son Bredito Gonzalez, and great grandson, Brendan Leary, she is survived by her daughters, Fresnaida (Jaime) Ganiron and Leticia (Mariano) Visitacion; daughter-in-law Narcisa Gonzalez; grandchildren, Marlene Leary, Jeffrey Ganiron, Sharlene Torres, Melbourne Gonzalez, Jason Ganiron, Jayleen Ganiron, Bredito Gonzalez Jr., and Chad Visitacion; great-grandchildren, Jaymee Acoba, Meghan Leary, Emma Leary and Brent Torres.
Family and friends may visit with the family on Friday, Sept. 8 at Kaua‘i War Memorial Convention Hall from 5 to 9 p.m. for the wake and again on Saturday, Sept. 9 at Immaculate Conception Church with visitation from 7:30 to 8:45 a.m. and Mass celebrated at 9 a.m. Burial will follow at Immaculate Conception Cemetery.
Kauai Memorial Gardens & Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements.
Christina Nan Smith
Christina Nan Smith died Sept. 3, 2006, on Maui.
Born in Riverside, Calif., on Aug. 20, 1962, she was a resident of Kaua‘i. She served her country in the U.S. Marine Corps and the U.S. Army.
Christina is survived by her parents Steven and Beulah Smith of Lihu‘e; sons Beau (Kacie) Wickham of the U.S. Air Force and Kiel Parreira of Lihu‘e; brother Derek Smith of Lihu‘e and her twin sister, Janeene Gong of Maui.
Private services will be held at Kauai Veterans Cemetery.
Consolacion K. Lowe
Consolacion K. Lowe of Kapahi died Aug. 31, 2006, at Queen’s Hospital at the age of 83.
Born Oct.16, 1922, in Kilauea, she was a seamstress.
She is survived by her husband Robert Lowe of Kapahi; three daughters: Patricia Ann (Ton) Ferm-mzin of California, Elsie (Richard) Laraba of California, Sally (Harry) Gayagas of Kapahi; son Robert (Christan) Mariano of California; 16 grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; four great great grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
Friends may visit with the family beginning at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 9 at Kauai Veterans Cemetery where memorial services will be celebrated at 10:45 a.m. Inurnment to follow.
Casual attire is suggested. Arrangements are being handled by Borthwick Kauai Mortuary.
Douglas A. Johnson
Douglas A. “Uncle Doug” Johnson of Princeville died at his home on Sept. 1, 2006, at the age of 65. Born in Colorado on Sept. 17, 1937, he retired from the Navy and also worked at the University of Guam.
Preceded in death by his wife Delores and mother Della, he is survived by a brother Samuel Johnson of Woodland Park, Colo.; niece Tracie Johnson of Princeville, two nephews, David Johnson of Texas and Dale Johnson of California; grand-niece Shian Johnson of Princeville.
