With just three races left on the Garden Isle Racing Association calendar, drivers will be jockeying for point advantages when gates open Saturday for another night race.
Gates to the Kaua‘i Raceway Park in Mana will open at 11 a.m. for racers and noon for spectators.
Time trials run from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. with bracket racing for cash and trophies at 7:30 p.m.
Everything from Jr. dragsters to fire-breathing alcohol dragsters running close to 190 mph are on the agenda.
Currently, Nestor Cabatan and Craig Fujimoto lead the Street ET class. David Onodera and Chris Loew lead the Destination Autoworks Pro ET class, with 10 racers close behind.
Calvin Costa, former Jr. Dragster Champion, leads the Auto Stylin’/Island Embroidery Muscle V-8 class with 485 points. Shandon Takayama sits in second with 435 points.
Matt Kaleiohi, last year’s Bike ET champion, has a slight lead over seven other racers in the Kaua‘i Suzuki’s Bike ET class and Sheldon Costa controls the NAPA Jr. Dragster class.
The races are sponsored by Destination Autoworks, PS&D NAPA, Kaua‘i Fire Protection, Suzuki Kaua‘i, Manny’s Repair, Auto Stylin’ with Island Image Embroidery and Pioneer Seed.
Kaua‘i Raceway is located about a mile past Kekaha. Admission is $12 for adults with children 12 and under admitted free.
GIRA is a nonprofit group dedicated to automobile safety and responsible racing on the track, not the street.
