Roy Masao Sakai of Lihu‘e died at Wilcox Memorial Hospital on Sept. 4, 2006, at the age of 79. Born in Waimea on Jan. 8, 1927, he was a retired building inspector with the state of Hawai‘i.
He is survived by his wife, Patsy Z. Sakai; three daughters, Kris (Caesar) Jardin of Kalaheo, Carlie (Galen) Oshiro of Lihu‘e and Laurie (Michael) Higley of Lihu‘e; eight grandchildren, Shelby-Ann (Eric) Erdmann, Sean Jardin, Ashley (Tom) Kowach, Nikki, Darcy and Kelli Oshiro, Farren Higley and Quintin Sakai-Higley; two great-grandchildren, Kade Erdmann and Cori Kowach; numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends may visit with the family from 1 to 2 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 10, at the Garden Island Mortuary chapel; service officiated by Rev. Midori Kondo will begin at 2 p.m. Casual attire is suggested.
