Kaua‘i women made their mark at the 26th annual Tinman Hawai‘i triathalon on O‘ahu recently.
Six women made up two teams that finished third and fourth at the event that drew over 900 competitors, according to one of the team members.
Laoka Lake, Hildegarde Miyashiro and Colleen Tehero made up the team that finished third place with a 2:42:51.6 overall time.
Jenet Miller, Audrey Valenciano and Joanne Robson were in the team that completed the event in fourth place on a 2:49:02.2 performance.
According to notes submitted by Colleen Tehero, one of the team members, the competition consisted of an 800-meter ocean swim, 40K Bike Course and a 10K Run.
Both teams were under the tutelege of coach and trainer Pamela Kruse of Kalaheo who will be starting her training program for the Old Koloa Sugar Mill Walk/Run that will take place on Nov. 4.
Kruse, who owns and operates Fitbodies in Kalaheo, finished the Tinman competition 83rd overall with a total elapsed time of 2:15:04.5.
Working at a 17:31/K pace through the ocean swim, Kruse finished that phase at 2:06 and upped her time in the bike portion where she completed the course in 1:08.6 and ran the 10K in 39:52.1.
That performance earned Kruse top honors in the Female 45 to 49 age group with a performance of over four minutes over second-place finisher Barbara Heiller.
Members of the third and fourth place Tinman teams credit Kruse for their performance in this triathalon.
“I feel a great sense of fulfillment as their trainer to see the gains in fitness and the commitment of my clients who train for sporting events,” Kruse said.
Fitbodies, the personal training program owned by Kruse, offers over 15 years of professional experience in fitness coaching and motivation to achieve personal goals, according to the Web site.
Kruse is certified by the American College of Sports Medicine, American Council on Exercise and holds a graduate degree in exercise physiology.
“Fitness goes far beyond just making you look good,” said Kruse, a competitive triathlete who placed in the top three in her age group for the past eight seasons. “It improves your health and well-being, quality of life and self-esteem. Fitness should be fun and enjoyable, something to look forward to and something that leaves you feeling satisfied and successful.”
The training for the Old Koloa Sugar Mill Walk/Run program started Monday with an orientation at the Fitbodies Studio in Kalaheo and will continue through Nov. 4.
Under the 10-week program, Kruse will serve as the run coach with Terri Halliday coaching the walks.
