KALAHEO — Jessica Turley had a hard time sleeping on Friday night.
However, she wasn’t sick or distraught. Instead, the 5-year-old Kalaheo soccer player was overly excited about her very first AYSO soccer game on Saturday.
“She was outside kicking her pink soccer ball all day,” her older sister Rachel said.
The Turleys, who recently moved to Kalaheo from Long Beach, Calif., are just as excited about the soccer season as Jessica.
“Ever since we got here, we wanted to get our kids into sports,” said Jessica’s father, Walt.
Jessica’s brother, Connor, also plays soccer for a Kalaheo squad.
“He used to play when we were in California,” Walt said. “It was either soccer or Pop Warner here and so we chose soccer, but he’ll do Pop Warner when he gets a little older.”
The Turleys were up early yesterday morning to watch both Jessica and Connor play in their first soccer contests at Kalawai Park.
“Nobody kept score,” Walt said after Jessica’s game. “It’s all about having fun.”
Jessica, who is interested in water sports as well, will be joining Mokihana Aquatics soon.
But for now, she’ll be getting to bed early on Friday nights, so she can tear up the soccer field.
