Last night on the Big Island, Kaua‘i trounced Keaau, 28-2.
The Menehune are at home tonight at Hanapepe Stadium against Waiakea of the Big Island. In the meantime, the Warriors battle HPA on the Big Island tonight.
“The kids have been working really hard this summer,” Kapa‘a head coach Sia Salausa said. “Our team is fairly young, but we got a lot of good sophomores.”
Kapa‘a, who finished last in the KIF last season, hopes to turn it around this year.
“They’re coming around,” Salausa said. “Lots of kids graduated last year, but we have some returnees who came back.”
Against HPA, Salausa feels his squad shouldn’t worry about winning.
“Our goal is to get everyone in the game,” he said. “Maybe we’ll make some changes and put them in places to help the team.”
Salausa stresses discipline to his players and this year is no different.
“Winning starts with attitude,” he said. “You gotta want to win. They’re excited about the season. They couldn’t wait to get into the pads.”
