Author and editor Cristina Salat will lead the Volcano Art Center’s first weekend publishing retreat, “Living the Writer’s Life,” on the Big Island from Aug. 25 to Aug. 27.
Writers ready to get their work published are invited to “get away from it all” in Volcano Village, just outside Hawai‘i Volcanoes National Park, a Volcano Art Center press release states.
“The life of a writer — whether a budding beginner or a published professional moving toward the next stage of success — is an adventure filled with twists and turns worthy of any bestseller,” Salat said in the release.
The hands-on retreat includes chapters that delve into emotional content and dramatic plot devices, discouragement, inner demons and success, approaching and surviving the publishing industry, workshopping problematic scenes, landing deals and negotiating contracts and enjoying the promotional fruits of success.
“Throughout the weekend, we will dive deeper into work we love, stretching our writing muscles to enhance the dramatic and emotional content of our manuscripts so they will not fall prey to the main reasons so many are rejected by agents, editors and Hollywood producers,” Salat said.
The retreat is open to writers in all genres. Six catered meals are part of the $250 fee, and two nights in a private room are available for an additional $130.
