Weather permitting, the 8th Annual Ho‘onua ‘O Ke Kai Ocean Festival is on tap for this weekend at PK’s in Po‘ipu.
Sponsored by Quiksilver, Nalu Underground, YMCA and Bud Light, the event was created to encourage kids to excel at both surfing and academics.
Ocean Fest provides a fun and competitive platform for kids and adults while raising money for kids. With the money raised, the Kaua‘i Surfing Association helps in purchasing plane tickets, travel expenses and competition fees for those moving ahead in competitive surfing.
Open to all amateur surfers, event categories include: short board; long board; body board; and masters.
All are divided into specified age groups.
This year the KSA special events include the keiki push-in 6-and-under, open ocean swim from Shipwrecks to Waiohai.
The Beach House Restaurant will provide lunch goodies, including award-winning burgers and hot dogs.
An awards ceremony at Joe’s on the Green will follow the day’s events. Prizes will be awarded to the winners, and the evening will be filled with great food and tones of family fun.
