Kaua‘i has inspired song for years. It seems only appropriate that the annual Kauai Music Festival is held here each summer.
While the artists spend most of the four-day songwriting workshop fine tuning their craft, they band together on two nights to perform for the public. That’s when the festival gets funky.
This years event features two unique shows:
• Hawaiian Night: Friday, Aug. 4
Local favorites Makana and John Cruz bring their personal songs and swift fingers to Kaua‘i along with Sistah Robi Kahakalau, Charles Brotman and Kohala for a night of Hawaiian music.
• Gala Night: Saturday, Aug. 5
Makana and John Cruz return to join Ben Moody and David Hodges (formerly of Evanescence) for an all out jam session. Steve Dorf, Hugh Prestwood, Jeff Peterson, Robi Kahakalau and Paul Overstreet will also perform.
Both shows will be held at the Kaua‘i Community College Performing Arts Center. Doors open at 6:15 p.m. All concert tickets are priced at $30 a piece and seating is open. Tickets are available in advance at the Lihu‘e Border’s location or through the Kauai Music Festival Web site www.kauaimusicfestival.com.
