Clayton Arinaga, acting chief of police, formally introduced Gordon Isoda as his acting deputy chief at yesterday’s police commission meeting.
“Gordon is the most qualified and capable officer that we have,” Arinaga said.
Isoda has been a part of the Kaua‘i police force for the past 22 years, working his way from patrolman to assistant chief.
He will serve as acting deputy chief until the police commission selects a new chief. The chief then will choose his deputy.
In the interim, Isoda will oversee the business operations of the department, a job that Arinaga called “the most demanding and taxing position in the department.”
Isoda said he grew up in Koloa and graduated from Kaua‘i High School before moving to Washington for college. He now resides in Lihu‘e.
Isoda replaces Howard Venneman, who continues to work with the police department’s traffic division.
