Congratulations to Pat Baniaga and his ‘ohana for putting together another successful Fantasy Softball Tournament … Troy Lazaro (he was recently promoted to manager of the Keawe Grill at the Waiohai) was on hand Thursday and said they’ll be working on the Waiohai float for the Plantation Days parade Friday night.
Albert Soto, the founder of the softball tournament, was definitely missed. Don Ouderkirk was on hand to help umpire and Joe Furnari, on vacation from Phoenix, was busy umpiring at the tourney as well. Even Mike Koerte was doing double duty as umpire and coach.
Eric Fujimoto, one of the coaches for the West Kaua‘i 12 team, had the right idea with his “garden cart” to help transport equipment … oversized tires don’t get stuck!
Hats off to Susan Cox and her summer interns Josh Cabral, Jake Oketani and Tori Shimabukuro for a really nice break dance event Friday!
A lot of the Recreation Agency people were there to enjoy the competition, but kudos should go to Zion Foster, a Koloa School student, who jumped right in with the pink dancers.
Topaz Fernandez is really getting around after that cheer camp award. She was at the Friday night event following her stint at the All-Star Cheer tryouts Thursday and, on Saturday, made it out to Hanalei for the canoe paddling championships.
Finally, Shantel (Tristan Rosare calls her “Telly”) Batara (she was registering Friday at Kaua‘i High) has been doing a good job filling in for Kori Masuda who is enjoying a trip to Japan right now.
