KALAHEO — The Kalepa boys dropped both games at the ZZ/Rotary Club of West Kaua‘i 19 Under boys basketball league Thursday.
In the final two games of the night, coach Peter Rayno’s boys were trounced first by Kalaheo, 70-43, and then Kapa‘a, 56-33.
Kekoa Prem had a game-high 19 points to lead Kalepa, but it wasn’t nearly enough. Between Kalaheo gunners Aaron Hesapene, Futi Tavana, Josh Bradbury, Kaulana Lemke and Ross Acoba, the Kalepa boys could not find an answer. Hesapene finished with 14, Tavana added a dozen, Bradbury, Lemke and Acoba each netted 11 points in the win.
In the final game of the night, Prem and Ian Lacataotao notched eight points each, and Kaleo Cummings dropped in a dozen, but fell short against Kapa‘a and Junnel Calpito’s game-high 15. Coty Salausa threw in 11, and James Aiu, Trevor Knight and Manny Pescador each added six.
In the opening game of the night, 12 and Under Boys matchup, Ariel Lahip soared to a game-high 27 points for Kaulupono, who beat Papalina 44-38. Kaelin Burton assisted Lahip’s efforts with a nine-point showing. Brandon Palacio scored 17 in the loss.
Greg Griffin and Vincent Vea eached scored a game-high 10 points to lead Westside A over Westside B 45-39 in Game 2. Roldan Villanueva was close behind with nine points for Westside A.
Steven Rivera topped the Westside B effort with eight points, followed by Hayward Halog adding seven from the post. Kasey Okihara and Mark Guirao each scored five in the loss.
