The Department of Land and Natural Resources has issued a reminder about safety prohibitions during the Fourth of July holiday.
“To protect both people and natural resources on this national holiday, we are reminding the public of the following rules that need to be observed over the Fourth of July weekend,” said Peter Young, DLNR chairperson, according to a press release.
Alcohol and setting off fireworks are prohibited within all state parks, forest reserves, unencumbered lands and small boat harbors.
DLNR enforcement officers will make spot checks at locations statewide to ensure that all boats, personal water craft and kayaks are equipped with required safety equipment onboard, and that gear is operational and up to date. Officers will also inspect for overloading, DUI and other rules and regulations established by the DLNR and Coast Guard.
All vessels, thrill craft and kayaks must stay 300 yards away from any location where fireworks will be set off from land sites over the water.
For more information or to report a violation, call DLNR-Enforcement at 274-3521 on Kaua‘i, or call the Operator and ask for “Enterprise 5469” 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
