With the victory, Southside improved to 3-0 following a two-game series sweep on Saturday.
In their first game, Southside blew out the Shockers 19-3 in a game shortened by the 10-run rule and notched their second win Saturday with a 12-2 romp over Kapa‘a.
The Shocker loss Tuesday puts the Lihu‘e team at 0-3 after they dropped two games in Saturday’s league opener. Following their 3-19 loss from Southside, the Shockers dropped a 2-0 contest to Kapa‘a.
Kapa‘a is at 1-1 in league play.
With two runs each, Stanton Yoshimori, Troy Yamase, Wes Masumura, Kaulana Judd and Loren Duarte led the Southside scoring Tuesday.
Marcus Oketani opened the scorebooks for the Shockers in the first inning scoring three times in the loss.
Southside finished with 10 hits led by Duarte (3-4) and Yoshimori (2-5).
Brenden Hew (3-4) and Braden Balocan (2-2) led the Shockers’ bats in their 10-hit outing.
Southside jumped out to an early three-run lead in the opening frame only to have Marcus Oketani answering for the Shockers on an RBI double from Hew.
Duarte added another run for Southside in the second inning, but the Shockers answered with three runs to tie the contest 4-4.
Darren Lapitan, walking first, was the first of three runs as he scored on an Oketani single. Kellan Wakumoto drove James Davenport home and Hew crossed Oketani for the second time.
Troy Yamase scored off a Shocker miscue in the third frame to break the stalemate for Southside. With two outs, Southside continued to hammer as Kaulana Judd delivered three more runs on a double to deep leftfield. Judd scored on a Duarte RBI single and Duarte came home on a Kyle Kaili RBI for the 10-4 lead.
Balocan drove in two Shocker runs in the fourth inning, but the effort fell short as Southside kept ahead of the Lihu‘e team for the remainder of the 150-minute marathon that finished under the orange-fringed clouds of sunset.
Southside will face the Shockers again Saturday as they open up a three-game series at the Ron Martin Field in Kapa‘a starting at 9 a.m. Southside will conclude their double-header against Kapa‘a starting at 11:30 a.m., and Kapa‘a closes the series against the Shockers starting at 2 p.m.
