Little less than a year ago, the Nuesca Family suffered great tragedies when Helene and Louie Nuesca lost their lives in a car accident.
Robert, their son, survived the crash. However, it left him as a paraplegic, with severe brain damage.
He was known in the community as a coach for Kapa‘a Pop Warner, Kapa‘a High School’s junior varsity football team and in the Kawaihau Community Little League.
As an entertainer with Uncle Larry Rivera’s lu‘au show in 1986, Robert met Mercy, his wife of 18 years.
Since then, they have been entertaining all over the island and have also shared their aloha across the sea in Japan.
They have four children (Rylan 17, Ricah 14, Rydge 12, and Kelieann Rose 10).
Due to the accident, Mercy is now the family’s sole income earner, supporting four children and caring for Robert on her limited income.
Robert requires 24-hour skilled nursing care. The family rents a home and would like to move to the home his parents left behind in Anahola.
A 3-man paintball tournament is scheduled for Saturday, July 1 at the Aloha Paintball Field.
The event is a benefit fundraiser for the Robert Nuesca Family.
Registration is $25 per person and must be received by this Sunday.
Late entries will not be accepted after Sunday.
For more information, call Tim at 652-9808 or Colette at 652-0065.
“Our goal is to raise at least $50,000 toward much-needed repair and renovations (building of ramps for Robert’s transport and room expansions to accommodate his care) for the Anahola home,” event coordinator Angela Agustin said.
“Throughout his difficult ordeal, the Nuesca family has been in good and positive spirits,” Agustin said. “They believe everything happens for a reason and that in time, the Lord will restore their lives as they hope and pray for their future.”
Friends, family and church members are organizing a benefit fundraiser for Saturday July 1, 2006.
The one-day event will run 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. and will include along with the paintball tournament, a bake sale/country store, all-day entertainment, food booths/game booths, and a silent auction.
Check out the Aloha Church’s Web site for more information at www.alohachurch.org.
