Wade Poor, the son of Randy and Barbara Poor of Hanalei, recently graduated from the California Maritime Academy in Vallejo, Calif.
He graduated magna cum laude and received an award from the Institution of Navigation.
Poor was born and raised on Kaua‘i, where he attended Hanalei School and graduated from Kapa‘a High School.
At Kapa‘a High School he was an honor student. When he wasn’t studying, he spent time on the water, rowing with the Hanalei Canoe Club from the time he was 8 years old until he was 20.
Poor is currently working on a private ship based out of Louisiana.
“He’s dredging the Mississippi River right now,” said his mother.
