The Kauai Screenwiters Group’s summer meeting sessions are about to get underway, and Frank Reilly is looking for writers. Through workshop settings, the group provides aspiring and established screenwriters a forum for productivity, dramatic readings, group critiques and an opportunity to share experiences with other local writers.
Interested writers need to submit a complete short- or long-form script in standard screenplay format for review, and seats will be limited to maximize individual attention.
“I want to see writing samples to get a sense of each candidate’s writing ability,” Reilly said. “This isn’t a group for beginners.”
He’s looking at a June 30 deadline for submitted scripts from potential new members and hopes to start the summer sessions, which meet every two weeks, on July 1.
“We’ll set a mutually agreeable meeting schedule rather than establishing one at the outset that might not work for some,” Reilly said.
Participation is free, though writers must commit to the development and completion of a feature-length work in six-to-nine months and/or a short-form screenplay in three-to-six months.
The group was created to support screenwriters in three important and often hard-to-find ways: consistent, positive encouragement; experienced and knowledgeable support; and deadline based timetables to spur project completion.
Current participants include produced and award winning screenwriters, Reilly said.
