PO‘IPU — Saturday was the first time Blaine Michioka had a problem with too much wall space.
“This is more space than I have in my shop,” the Kaua‘i photographer said.
Through an agreement with Roy’s Restaurant in the Po‘ipu Shopping Village, the eatery started displaying a variety of big prints from Michioka’s collection, and hosted a reception celebrating the event.
Jeanne Michioka said their book that was offered during the reception celebrated Blaine’s photographs of the island as well as her respect for her kumu hula Kawaikapuokalani Hewett who presided over the ceremonies surrounding the untying of the lei to the exhibit.
Local artist Carol Yotsuda said she had never been to Manawaiopuna Falls — one of the sites in Jurassic Park — while admiring one of Michioka’s prints.
Kaua‘i Mayor Bryan Baptiste, who along with Yotsuda was scheduled to make an appearance at a CD release party on the North Shore, also shared somewhat of a class reunion with Michioka.
Baptiste and Michioka are members of the Kapa‘a High School Class of 1973 and joked about their accomplishments.
