Junior Girl Scouts Troop 150 held their bridging and awards luncheon at the Kiahuna Golf Club at the end of May.
Three of the Junior Girl Scouts, LeinaRose Fune, Dora Mahoe and Nicole Ogawa, were honored with the “Girl Scout Bronze Award,” the highest award in Junior Girl Scouting.
To receive the award, the girls had to complete a community service project and complete work to earn two badges pertaining to their project.
They chose to volunteer time at the Koloa Library, the same place the weekly meetings are held.
Koloa Library employee David Thorpe said that the top shelves needed painting and the Girl Scouts decided that would be their chore.
The girls took time off on the weekends to research the project and do the shopping.
The Home Depot donated the paint and supplies they needed, and the girls did the project in two days.
The girls also worked on the badges “Books” and “Drawing & Paintings.” With the “Books” badge, the girls read books about folk tales, how-to, and American history. They also donated books to the bookstore in Hanapepe. In “Drawing & Paintings,” they learned about types of paint, the necessary steps in painting, primary colors, lines and curves.
Junior Girl Scout Troop 150 is made up of girls from Koloa to Kalaheo. The troop leader is Adela Fune.
