LIHU‘E — Trevor McCracken and Mikal Moranz scored goals in stop time to give the Lihu‘e Cougars life against Westside United only to lose 3-2.
Mason Vegas scored his second goal since the end of regulation with a shot from the far side in second overtime, sealing the title in the Boys Under 12 division at the Kaua‘i Soccer Association playoffs Saturday at North Vidinha.
“It feels so good,” one of the Westside United boys said. “After so many years of being number two, it feels good to be on top.”
Of the nine titles on the line, three were settled in overtime, and one — the Boys Under 14 — was decided by a shootout.
Tied 1-1 on goals by Logan Domingo and Aaron Pigott, Motiv-8 and Meyvn played two overtimes in a dead heat.
In the shootout, Motiv-8 goalie Alex LaMadrid stopped all the shots he faced save one by Lucas Riley. For Motiv-8, Domingo, Alex Brown and Evan Alpert-Ka‘ahea scored to guarantee the 2-1 title win.
