In a defensive battle, Kapa‘a upended Hawai‘i Prep, 34-25 yesterday in consolation action of the HHSAA/Hawaiian Airlines Division II State Girls Basketball Championships at McKinley High School.
The victory also kept the KIF champions alive in the tournament.
The Warriors were led by Brittney Carvalho, Poe Gantt, Michelle Toy, April Johnson, Kennilyn Nakamura, Kieren Pond, and Mailika Napoleon.
Kapa‘a improved to 8-3 this season and 1-1 in state championship action.
The Warriors, who fell in a heartbreaker to Word of Life, 52-49 in opening round action, play the winner of the Hawai‘i Baptist/Moloka‘i contest on Friday at 2:30 p.m. at McKinley High School.
The HBA/Moloka‘i game takes place today at 12:45 p.m.
The winner battles Kapa‘a for the consolation title (7th place).
This is the 30th annual of the girls state hoops tournament.
