Kapa’a’s Kain breaks Sonoma St. track records
Sonoma State runner Elizabeth Kain, a former Kapa’a High School athlete, ran the 400 meters Saturday at the Woody Wilson Invitational held at UC-Davis in a time of 57.54 taking fourth place. Her time was both a personal record and a new school record, breaking the old mark by four-
tenths of a second.
She also ran the first leg in the teams 4×400 meter relay, that also set a new school record of 3:53.24, breaking the old mark by more than a second.
Motocross races invade Wailua, Sunday
Come see thrills, spills, high flying action, and bar banging competition this weekend at the Kaua’i Motocross Riders Association’s first race of the year on Sunday at the Wailua Motocross track.
Gates open at 7 a.m., with registration for all racers happening from 7:45 a.m. — 8:30 a.m. The races should start shortly thereafter.
Admission is $2.00 for adult race fans. Mini race fans 10-and-under are free. So bring your coolers, grinds, and suntan lotion down to Wailua and cheer on your favorite motocross racer to victory.
Pre-registration for all racers can also be done on Saturday from 11 a.m. — 5 p.m. down at the track. For more information, call 482-0155.
Business canoe race looking for participants
The 19th Annual Kaua’i Business Canoe Race at Hanamaulu Beach is scheduled for May 6. This is a great team sport for businesses and the event starts at 8 a.m.
Experienced or non-experienced paddlers are truly welcome and practices can be arranged.
They will provide the equipment and steersperson. It’s a fun event and for more information, call 651-299. Deadline is Monday, May 1.
West Kaua’i AYSO registration
AYSO Region 940 for West Kaua’i (Kekaha, Waimea, Hanapepe, ‘Ele’ele, Kalaheo, Lawa’i, Koloa, Lihu’e) for youths who range in age from 2 to 19 years, is currently going through its registration process.
Check out www.AYSOkauai.org for age charts and dates. The fall season begins Aug. 19 and runs through Oct. 28.
Pre-register at www.AYSO-kauai.org and then register at Kukui Grove Center on Friday, May 5, from 5-8 p.m. and on May 6 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. (fee is $50).
Registration will also take place on June 10 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Kukui Grove Center (fee is $60).
After July 28, interested players will be placed on a waitlist only, no new teams will be formed.
Please bring an original birth certificate for proof of player’s age (new players), emergency contact information, doctor and medical insurance information and a method of payment.
