“Uncle” Mark Jeffers is taking a few weeks off from his every- Saturday family storytelling session, he said in a telephone interview.
As a family alternative to TV, Jeffers, executive director of The Storybook Theatre of Hawaii, had been offering the storytelling sessions every Saturday at 7 p.m. at the Storybook facility on Hanapepe Road in Hanapepe.
The attendance has been good, and most people told him they learned about the sessions because of the Community Calendar listing in The Garden Island, he said.
As he is taking a vacation all of May, and leaves Monday, there will be no storytelling session this Saturday, he said.
The sessions will resume in June, he added.
Jeffers, along with special guests, entertains all ages of children and members of their families with favorite legends and tales, island and otherwise, Jeffers said in an earlier press release.
When the sessions resume in June, children are encouraged to bring their best-liked pillow to sit on in the carpeted upstairs classroom of The Storybook Theatre of Hawaii.
Admission is free, though donations will be gratefully accepted, he said.
Experience the fun of live storytelling, he said.
In addition to being an accomplished storyteller, Jeffers is also the on-camera voice and puppeteer of the popular Russell the Rooster character on the “Russell the Rooster Show” on Oceanic Time Warner Cable channel 6. Call 335-0712 for more information.
