Waimea goes into Wednesday’s KIF baseball contest with Kapa’a, with one thing on its mind: a KIF championship.
The Menehune are one win away from taking home their first KIF title in awhile.
Even coach Kelly Robinson isn’t really sure when’s the last time Waimea took the KIF baseball crown.
“I couldn’t tell you. All I know is that it’s been a while,” Robinson said earlier this season.
Waimea’s big hitters include the likes of Isaac Castillo, Quinton Natividad, Mason Lorenzo, Brad Frasco, Broc Santiago, Keith Nonaka, Braden Hiraoka, Brenden Hew and Kelly Batis.
Waimea, the first-round champs, boast a 9-1 overall record and 4-0 showing in the second round.
In the meantime, the Warriors are still looking for their first win of the 2006 season.
However, Coach Destry Carvalho has his boys playing tough and both the Red Raiders and Menehune have been challenged by the men in green.
KIF baseball action begins at 2:45 p.m. on Wednesday at the Ron Martin Athletic Field.
The game will be aired live on KONG AM570, with “Anahola” Joe.
