The unique tradition continues for the storied Red Raider girls golf program, with Miki Ueoka following the same path to the collegiate ranks of Rachel Kyono (Pepperdine), Shelcie Takenouchi (USC), Lehua Wise (New Mexico St.), Jennie Pleas (Nevada), and Ki’ilani Matsuyoshi (UH-Hilo).
Ueoka, who’s only a junior, has another season to show off her skills to college recruiters.
So far this season, she’s won every tournament, but the way she’s dominated is probably the best indication of how high she might end up when it comes to state tournament play on O’ahu at the Turtle Bay Fazio Golf Course on May 8-10.
Some schools have already shown interest in Ueoka, who hasn’t been challenged this year in KIF action.
Ueoka has risen through the Kaua’i Junior Golf ranks, much like that of most of the top performers this season in both the boys and girls races.
KIF golf tees up at the Po’ipu Bay Golf Course this Saturday at 11:30 a.m.
Then the final qualifying round kicks off at the Wailua Golf Course on April 29 at 11:18 a.m.
