Members of New Hope Kauai at Kapa‘a will be hosting their Easter celebration and lu‘au at the Kaua‘i Memorial Convention Hall this Sunday, starting at 10 a.m.
Pastor Matt Higa explained that ticket scrip for the lu‘au will be passed out during the service, so people need to be in the service to receive their lu‘au tickets.
“The church is not just a building with walls,” Higa said. “We wanted as much people to join us. We wanted to reach out and touch (the community) instead of them reaching to us. That’s why we went for a celebration and luau.” This year’s celebration will include a performance by internationally renowned local recording artist Malia Gibson during the service. Her talents have been featured around the world and she has been on the contemporary music charts in Hawai‘i for some time. Gibson has firm roots on Kaua‘i, and her Christian faith is reflected in her music and heart.
Mike Lingaton will be leading the praise and worship for this event. Local couple Robbie and Pua Kaholokula will also showcase their musical and dancing talents.
There will be a drama skit, creative sign dance, men’s and women’s hula, video presentations and hip-hop dance for the youth.
The menu for the day includes kalua pig, lomi salmon, chicken long rice, smoked meat, poi, rice, poke, opihi and all sorts of desserts, said Higa.
“The majority of the food has been or will be cooked by the members of the church,” he said.
