Happy Prince Kuhio Day! As Warren Perry (he’s the po‘o) would say, “Mahalo for the holiday!” Seriously, though, Warren and the rest of the Royal Order of Kamehameha members did a bang-up job with this year’s Prince Kuhio service. And, he had Keola to keep everything moving smoothly. Mayor Bryan J. Baptiste was looking a little less stressed now that the sun was out, and Ron Iida (he’s the ali‘i ai moku for the Royal Order) and his crew has done a great job getting the PK Park ready for this annual event. He said they just pulled out over one, five-gallon pail of dead fish from the recent floods. Things were so exciting, even Kyson Gusukuma was hobbling around on his crutches. Lessee now, Kyson sprained his ankle, Lezlie Tao sprained her ankle. What’s going on? On an Essential Kauai assignment, got to chat with Aaron Furugen (the sun was out Friday, too) over shave ice in Kapa‘a. Alycia Miyasato is from Kapolei, and said Aaron has the best shave ice (try it with passion fruit syrup. Broke da mouth). Jaslyn and Joslyn Langtad (remember them from the Nawiliwili Yacht Club’s Father’s Day fishing?) were enjoying their rainbow treats, and Valerie Saiki got her crew members to enjoy some treats while she dropped off a nice, anti-smoking calendar.
On another EK assignment, chef Shoji Namatame of the Sheraton Kauai Resort said the Naniwa restaurant has a half-price special from Tuesdays through Saturdays.
Is that considered happy hour? OK, we know it’s a great weekend when even Jenny Fujita came out to chat with Deborah Rice and Randy Yokoyama at the Hawai‘i Community Foundation office.
