Brandon Scovel’s family has been hopping all over the island this weekend, starting last week Wednesday when they were at the Kilauea Neighborhood Center. Then, it was back to Kalaheo for another boys’ basketball game, the Waimea carnival (mom said she is an alumnus!), and then on Sunday, off to soccer! Wow, and you thought the Camper had it rough! Of course, Jazzelyn Bradbury was at the carnival with members of her group, and then at soccer, Sunday, too. Keep an eye on this stopper!
Edmund Acoba had his family at the carnival, and Jean Souza’s ‘ohana members were there to watch the JROTC units do the opening number. Beth Cuizon had both her band and chorus from Waimea Canyon School on hand to perform, and Ken and Deedee Morikawa balanced their day between Kaua‘i Interscholastic Federation tennis (Kolin Morikawa won) and watching K.J. Morikawa perform with the chorus (one boy and nine girls strong).
Rhoda Libre picked up on that, and was nice to see Jose Bulatao Jr. “come support” Alan Villaflor and the Filipino dancers who also did a good job on stage. Mahalo to Gwen Teragawa for the fresh apple squares, and since “coach” Basilio “Bunga” Fuertes was there, so were a lot of nice plants in the country store. Carlina and Mariano Vea got one of those “white” eggplants. Mersuelle Rivera (she was one of the Westside wrestlers) was part of the all-girl color guard (hope Kehau Kato got to see them in action), and is looking forward to Thursday’s matches because she said she has a “counterpart” on the Eastside team. Go, Mersuelle!
