WAIMEA — You know it’s a Kaua’i rodeo when you hear the distinct sound of David Nawai’s voice, hooting and hollering, local style, instead of crashing down on plastic chairs at Superbowl parties.
The annual Waimea Plantation Days Rodeo brought in a huge crowd to the westside for some intense action.
Kaua’i’s paniolos, from high school phenom Randy Brun to old timer, Lelan Nishek, gathered at the Old Waimea Dairy site, yesterday for the finals of the event.
On Friday, the cowboys battled through preliminary rounds, to attain the top times to enter the finals, which led to some big bucks for ropers and muggers.
While Bob Brun managed the scene as the flag man, his son, Randy, warmed up the crowd with his top-notched abilities.
Other notable cowboys and cowgirls on hand were John “Mr. Oly” Rita, Patrick “Banana” Brun, Adam Brun, Alannah Morris, Joyce Miranda, Bert and Penny Miranda, Louis Matias, Chaz Rita, Gavin Shimogawa, David Shimogawa, Kevin Fernandez, and more.
Full results of the event will be published sometime this week.
