A grand slam by Kainoa Santos in the seventh inning catapulted Kalaheo to an 11-7 win over Hanapepe in the latest round of AJA Baseball that was played Feb. 19 at Hanapepe Stadium.
Santos finished 1-5 in batting, but got 4 RBI followed by Tuki McCallum (2-3) and Troy Kaneshiro (2-3) who each an RBI in the win. Liko Pereira (2-4), Dave Bukoski (1-5), and Kenderson Caspillo (2-3) all singled. Brenden Hew (2-4) led Hanapepe with a home run and a double, driving in a pair of RBI. Vince Nitta (1-3) chalked up an RBI on his double. Kevin Suga (2-5), Kelly Robinson (2-5), Wendall Nonaka (1-4), and Brock Santiago (1-2) all singled.
Wendall Nonaka suffered the loss for Hanapepe, giving up nine earned runs on 11 hits while striking out six. Pereira and Kaina McCallum shared mound duties for Kalaheo with Pereira going five innings, giving up three earned runs on five hits while striking out two, and walking two. Kaina McCallum finished with four innings, allowing four earned runs on seven hits while striking out three.
Makaweli kept pace with Kalaheo in the finale with a 10-6 win over Lihu’e that came on 14 hits. Scott Shimabukuro (1-1) drove in 3 RBI on a double, and Sean Jardin (1-5) drove in two RBI on a single.
Jason Nakata (3-6), Lance Nakata (3-5), Leighton Otoman (2-4), and Gordon Muramaru (2-4) each finished with an RBI for Makaweli.
Ikaika Pezario (1-5) and Brad Chiba (1-4) each singled.
Ahren Kaneshiro (3-5) led the Lihu’e bats with an RBI on two doubles and a single. Mikey Cardinez (1-3) and Cory Dotario (1-4) each drove in a run on doubles. Bobby Texeira (1-4) singled.
Cody Dotario and Jason Nakata shared the win for Makaweli with both pitchers allowing no earned runs, but Dotario giving up two hits and walking one. Jason Nakata gave up four hits, struck out six, and walked four.
Cardinez suffered the loss for Lihu’e with nine earned runs in seven and a third inning while giving up 12 hits, striking out seven, and walking one. Barry Kawamura closed the game, allowing one earned run on two hits.
