For the first time, Waimea Canyon School hosted a wrestling demonstration, with students from health classes getting a taste of the wrestling experience recently.
Wendy Tannery, the lead teacher and the school’s student activities coordinator, provided invaluable assistance with arranging the event.
Students and parents of wrestlers from O‘ahu and Waimea High School also attended the event.
A wrestling demonstration with national champions, along with a video of the national competition were keys to the presentation of the demonstration.
“The goal of this event was to promote participation in this sport in the Kaua‘i Interscholastic Federation (KIF) and provide another avenue for Kaua‘i athletes to excel and potentially earn college scholarships,” Waimea Canyon’s Howard Hurst said.
