A bunch of firsts make the latest mixed martial arts (MMA) event on Kaua’i a can’t-miss spectacle on March 25.
The Garden Isle MMA Cage Match No. 3 breaks ground by being the first-ever outdoor MMA event on Kaua’i.
Hanapepe Stadium is the site where you’ll also see for the first time on the island, a womens MMA contest between Kapa’a’s A.J. Jenkins and Arizona’s Mystee Blackwood.
But the excitement continues, as MMA stars from all over the country will converge on the westside, with the likes of Kimo Leopoldo, who fought Royce Gracie in UFC 3, Kit Cope, who is featured on MTV’s reality series, Life of a Muay Thai Fighter, Robbie Lawler, and Jens Pulver.
Other top fighters attending the special autograph session include Anthony Torres from Spike TV, UFC Fighter 2 and O’ahu’s Niko Vitale.
“Monies from the autograph session will be going to a charity on Kaua’i,” event coordinator Vance Pascua said.
The third cage match on the island will also bring back a familiar face in former Kaua’i High School basketball stand-out Gabe “Da Meat Hook” Legacy, who manages fighters in Las Vegas. Legacy will bring down a crop of his fighters to square off in the event.
Kaua’i fighters participating in the matches include Kyle Sukehira, Eben Kaneshiro, Kaeo Lopez, Tesai Seamster, A.J. Jenkins, Pono Panaganan, Labeau Lagmay, Giovannni Lagmay, Brandon Wong, Weston Victorino, Chris Moler, Mark Perreira, Falcon Valeria, Kaimi Bermoy, Albert Bactad, Niko Rusakov, Gary Allianic, and Keoni Bigno.
Weigh ins and an autograph session will take place at the Kuku’i Grove Center Stage on March 24.
General admission tickets are $25 and $30 at the door. Ringside seats are available for $35.
Tickets can be purchased at Meyvn Skate in Lihu’e, Tropical Tantrum in Kapa’a, Dynamic Tinting in Puhi, Sweet and Sassy in ‘Ele’ele, Westside Sporting Goods in Waimea, M&H Service in Waimea, and Wong’s Restaurant in Hanapepe.
Doors for the event open at 6 p.m.
