An overhaul of major components at the Kapa‘a Refuse Transfer Station is scheduled to begin today and will take about eight weeks.
While the repair work is being done, the Kapa‘a Refuse Transfer Station will remain open to the public daily, 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Operations will be slightly modified.
Mixed-waste items brought to the facility must be placed in refuse collection trucks or other designated vehicles during the repair period, and drivers with full loads of mixed refuse are encouraged to go to the Lihu‘e Refuse Transfer Station.
Residents may continue to drop off clean, segregated “greenwaste” along with household white goods, scrap tires and used motor oil at the Kapa‘a facility.
All restrictions still apply at the Kapa‘a Refuse Transfer Station at all times: waste items with a dimension larger than 3 feet will not be accepted; private vehicles delivering waste items shall not exceed a 1-ton capacity; and certain prohibited materials will not be accepted, including automotive batteries and battery parts, propane tanks and prohibited liquids.
For more information, call the Kapa‘a Refuse Transfer Station or call the Solid Waste Division at 241-6861.
