The National Scholastic Surfing Association (NSSA) returns to Pinetrees on Feb. 4-5 (surf permitting) for contest No. 7, the second to last event of the season.
According to a press release, Hawai’i’s student surfers will be striving to accumulate points which will give them an invitation to the regional and national contests in California.
Hawai’i dominated last year’s nationals, by bringing home numerous titles, including Hanalei’s Bethany Hamilton.
The NSSA combines surfing and scholastic achievements, requiring participants to maintain a 2.0 GPA.
Scholarships are presented yearly to outstanding students.
“Come and enjoy the day at the bay, as the hot and heavy competition builds with only two contests left for the year,” Kaua’i NSSA coordinator Jody Stillwell wrote in a press release.
The event begins at 7:30 a.m. The alternate dates are Feb. 11-12 at Kealia Beach Break.
