• A story on Sunday’s front page about a paddling-practice injury sustained by Kapa‘a High School student William “Ama” Valente-Gonsalves, 15, inaccurately reported the injury. Valente-Gonsalves’ injury is to a bone in his neck, family members said. He is recovering from surgery in The Queen’s Medical Center in Honolulu, slowly regaining feeling in parts of his body, they said. Family members said they have received words of support from across Kaua‘i, Hawai‘i, the country and the world, and will be setting up a bank account soon to accept donations for the boy’s medical expenses and recovery effort.
