Born May 8, 1956, in San Francisco, Calif., he was employed by the County of Kaua’i. A former ‘opelu fisherman in Kona and an avid surfer, he loved the ocean. As Pop Warner “Coach Larry” he used his keen wit and common sense to inspire the Westside youth.

A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, Jan. 28, at the Hauoli Mauloa Pavilion (near Mata’s residence) at 9800 Uuku Road in Waimea Valley at 1 p.m. with services beginning at 2 p.m. Surfer attire is suggested.
