Employees at Princeville at Hanalei said they are pleased to have contributed $10,790.50 to the Kauai United Way 2005 annual fund-raising campaign, pushing Kauai United Way officials closer to their goal of $555,555.
Most of the funds raised were through employee payroll deductions, and a portion was from a walkathon coordinated by members of the Princeville at Hanalei Employee Council, a Princeville at Hanalei spokesperson said in a press release.
“We appreciate Princeville at Hanalei and their dedicated employees for their generosity and support,” said Scott Giarman, executive director of the Kauai United Way, upon receiving the check.
“This contribution tops their last one made in 2003 of $7,000. Great job,” Giarman said.
As an added incentive employee participation, Princeville at Hanalei General Manager Jay Furfaro announced at a quarterly employee meeting that special giveaways would be awarded to those in departments with the highest ratio of giving, or with the highest percent of employee participation.
“We wanted this campaign to be successful and fun, so we created a little friendly department-to-department challenge,” said Furfaro.
“It worked, because we had a record-breaking contribution, and we also had fun.
“We gave away hulihuli chicken, bags of poi, pizzas, and special lunches to the winning departments, all to help build support for this very-worthwhile organization,” Furfaro continued.
“We hope our contribution helps them to reach their goal of $555,555,” said Furfaro.
