It was a blustery day at CJM Arena on Sunday, but it didn’t stop the competition from giving the crowd a special show.
Cowboys, cowgirls and supporters had to run and hide from the occasional blessing from up above, but that did not deter the efforts of Brun and Vasconcelles who won the prestigious all-around title for the high school division.
For those who follow the sport of rodeo, events and names of contestants become familiar, but one little known fact is that contestants in the wrangler and high school divisions are required to carry at least a 2.0 GPA in order to compete.
Worthy of mentioning are five members who obtained first quarter GPA’s of 3.5 or higher.
They are Kristyn Vasconcelles, Sophomore, Kaua’i High; Louis Matias III, Senior, Waimea High; Kelli Carveiro, 8th Grade & Taylor Ludington, 7th Grade, Chieffess Kamakahele; & Linea Koehler, 6th Grade, Waimea Canyon.
Full results of the third Kaua’i Keiki and High School Rodeo of the season can be found in the scoreboard on page B2.
The next keiki and high school rodeo happens on February 12 at CJM Arena in Po’ipu.
