The University of Hawai’i Warrior volleyball team completed its second sweep in two nights of Douglas (Canada) College at the Stan Sheriff Center.
UH won 30-16, 30-18, and 30-15 in front of 1,644 fans (3,293 tickets issued). It was the final tune up for the Warriors before they officially open the 2006 regular season in two Mountain Pacific Sports Federation matches at UC Santa Barbara on Jan. 13-14.
Warrior Lauri Hakala posted a game-high 16 kills en route to a .480 hitting percentage in the match. The junior from Finland also contributed four digs and two blocks.
The Warriors out block the Royal 10-0 in the three games as three players came up with four blocks apiece. UH also held a huge advantage in the hitting department out slugging Douglas .395 to .000.
Middle blockers Dio Dante and Kyle Klinger had strong showings. Dante slammed seven kills and hit .455, while Klinger pounded down five kills in six swings.
Head coach Mike Wilton utilized both setters. Brian Beck-with dished out 20 assists in two games, while Sean Carney handed out 11 in game three.
All-American libero Alfred Reft had a match-high 10 digs, while both Klinger and Dante added three aces each.
Douglas was led by outside hitter Nathan Veysey who had a team-high 10 kills.
