If there was a week I’d like to throw out, it would be last week, but most of the panelists amnesia would be the disease of choice if they had to choose one for last week’s picks.
The Garden Island had the worst week by far and it plummeted them to the bottom of the barrel.
Shanna Pollard, Paul C. Curtis, and myself netted dismal 3-7 records, which probably left us no hope for the team title, but anything can happen, so we’ll trudge ahead to week 18.
As far as the top pickers go, Dickie “Da Wizard” Chang and Ron “Life of” Wiley posted the top marks at 7-3.
But their teammates let them down last week, as the combined records of Shelly Cobb and David Bice (10-10), and Bruce Smalling and Marlene Matutino (8-12) didn’t help at all.
Chang still leads the individual race by six games over Bice and the TV squad moved further ahead with just a few weeks to go.
This week’s set of picks are worth two points each, so the stakes are raised just a bit.
To show just how crafty she is when making her picks this week, Matutino let me know how she went about her playoff selections.
For one, she went with Tampa Bay because of Jon Gruden’s (head coach) good looks.
Then she chose New England because of Tom Brady’s handsome mug, but she switched off from good looks to nice uniforms, when she picked Carolina.
However, she couldn’t resist Pittsburgh’s cute runningback, so she chose the Steelers.
The first-year picker has fared pretty well this season, just seven games off the pace.
So this week, I’ll try to make my picks differently, so I’ll pick the Redskins because I’ve never been to D.C.
Then I’ll go with the Pats because New England has the best clam chowder.
I’ll choose Carolina because of Shaggy’s (reggae artist) song, “Oh Carolina.” And the Steelers will be my last choice over Cincy because my favorite color is yellow.
Wish me luck!
