Kaua’i’s best high school and keiki rodeo athletes rose to the top recently at CJM Country Stables in another installment of Kaua’i Keiki and High School Rodeo Association action. All-around winners included, Hunter Grace/Cheyanne Tannery (K-2nd grade), Clint Matias/Kira Blackstad-Pimental
Kaua’i’s best high school and keiki rodeo athletes rose to the top recently at CJM Country Stables in another installment of Kaua’i Keiki and High School Rodeo Association action.
All-around winners included, Hunter Grace/Cheyanne Tannery (K-2nd grade), Clint Matias/Kira Blackstad-Pimental (3rd-5th grade), Marcus “Allen” Shimogawa/Jake Rita/Kelli Carveiro (wrangler division, jr. high), and Randy Brun/Kristyn Vasconcelles (high school).
In barrel racing, Koby Blackstad took the top award in the K-2nd grade event over Adam Camara, Cheyanne Tannery, and Breanne Brun.
In the 3rd-5th grade contest, Kira Blackstad-Pimental ran away with first-place and was followed by Clint Matias, Ross Brun, and Kelly Blackstad.
Shelby Rita won the wrangler division, beating out Kelli Carveiro, Taylor Ludington, and Sandra Akita.
Jessica Falque grabbed the top spot in the high school section, over Kristyn Vasconcelles, Jenna Soares, and Sumiko Falque.
In pole bending action, Hunter Grace overshadowed Cheyanne Tannery in the K-2nd grade competition.
Kira Blackstad-Pimental won the 3rd-5th grade contest. She was followed by Ross Brun, Clint Matias, and Alexis Vasconcelles.
Kelli Carveiro took the wrangler division, with Taylor Ludington, Hallie Cristobal, and Shelby Rita rounding out the top four.
Brittney Brun beat out Kristyn Vasconcelles, Jenna Soares, and Sumiko Falque in the high school division.
Alexis Vasconcelles was the star of the goat undecorating contest in the 3rd-5th grade division. She ousted Ross Brun, Kira Blackstad-Pimental, and Clint Matias.
Koby Blackstad ended up with the K-2nd grade title, with a convincing win over Hunter Grace, Adam Camara, and Breanne Brun.
In wrangler division goat tying, Britni Ludington-Braun took first, followed by Hallie Cristobal, Kelli Carveiro, and Taylor Ludington.
Kristyn Vasconcelles was the top athlete in the high school contest, beating out Brittney Brun, Jessica Falque, and Jamie Sugai.
Hunter Grace won the K-2nd grade dummy roping and Clint Matias took the 3rd-5th grade title, over Kira Blackstad-Pimental and Ross Brun.
Shelby Rita overtook Kelli Carveiro in the wrangler division breakaway roping competition.
Kristine Sugai beat out Sumiko Falque, Kristyn Vasconcelles, and Brittney Brun for the high school crown.
Kelli Carveiro teamed up with Cory Carveiro for the calf mugging wrangler division top prize. They ousted Kalani Grace and Marcus “Allen” Shimogawa. Randy Brun and “Sweet” Louis Matias mugged their way to the top of the high school double mugging contest and Brun also ran away with the calf roping title, over Philip Schuman, Kody Yamamoto, and Keal Pontin.
Boots Ka’apana was the top performer in the po’o wai u competition.
In dally team high school roping, Randy Brun and “Sweet” Louis Matias won the top prize.
Brittney Brun and her partner finished second, followed by Shantell Wong/Sumiko Falque, and Kristyn Vasconcelles/Tyler Duarte.
The next KKHSR event is scheduled for January 8 at CJM Arena.
