Albert “Bill” Hicks
Albert “Bill” Hicks of Walnut Creek, Calif., died of natural causes at Kaiser Hospital on Nov. 14, 2005, at the age of 91.
Born January 12, 1914 in Vancouver, B.C., Canada, he moved to Oakland, Calif. at the age of 5. When he was 21, he married Liz and they raised a family together, living in the San Francisco Bay Area. He and Liz first came to Kaua’i in 1964. They fell in love with the island and returned every year until her death in 1973. In 1975, he married Ada in the chapel at the Coco Palms. In 1982, they moved to Kapa’a, living in a home on Puuopae Rd. for a wonderful 10 years. He served as Master of the Kauai Masonic Lodge. He also volunteered as a docent at the Sugar Cane Plantation House Museum. He and Ada sang in the choir at the Congregational Church in Kapa’a. He was also a lay minister at the Coco Palms chapel. In 1992 they moved to Concord, Calif.
He is survived by his wife Ada; daughters Kathleen, Nancy and their husbands; two stepchildren; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Memorial services will be on Saturday, Dec. 3, 11 a.m., at St. Paul’s Chapel, 1924 Trinity Ave., Walnut Creek, Calif.
Shizuko “Edna” Yamamoto
Shizuko “Edna” Yamamoto of Mililani, died on Nov. 10, 2005, in Honolulu at the age of 93.
Born on Kaua’i, on Sept. 24, 1912, she was a retired dress maker and retired adult education sewing instructor.
She is survived by her son, Bert Yamamoto; daughter, Vicki Kajioka, six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Private services were held. Donations can be made to Higashi Hongwanji.
Arrangements were handled by Ultimate Cremation Services of Hawai’i.
Fidela Marquez Bocobo
Fidela Marquez Bocobo died Nov. 23, 2005, at her home in Kilauea at the age of 88.
Born April 12, 1917, in the Philippines, she was a homemaker.
She is survived by her husband: Martin Bocobo of Kilauea; two sons: Stanley Bocobo of Mililani and John Bocobo of California; one daughter: Medida Bocobo-Fernandez; nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Family and friends may call on Friday, Dec. 2, at Borthwick Mortuary Chapel in Koloa from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. and again on Saturday, Dec. 3, at Borthwick Mortuary Chapel in Koloa from 9 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. where services will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Burial to follow at Kalapaki Bay Memorial Park Cemetery.
Barbara Ann Jarvis
Barbara Ann Jarvis , a long-time resident of Kapa’a, died at the age of 62.
She is survived by her daughter, Serena Jarvis of Kapa’a, her mother and brother. Memorial services will be held at a later date.
Arrangements are being handled by Kauai Memorial Gardens & Funeral Home.
Richard E. Brooks
Richard E. Brooks of Lihu’e, died Nov. 27, 2005, at Wilcox Memorial Hospital at the age of 92.
Preceded in death by his wife, Helen L. Brooks and brother Howard A. Brooks, he is survived by four daughters: Mary A. Brooks of Cripple Creek, Del., Jessie (Donn) Butkovic, of Pittsburgh, PA., Marion S. Brooks of Bethany Beach, Del., Helen B. (Richard) Regan of Harpswell, Maine; brother: Charles (Marge) Brooks, of Colorado Springs, Colo. and three grandchildren.
A memorial reception will be held at the Hanalei Bay Resort, 5380 Honoiki Road in Princevllle, on Sunday, Dec. 4, from noon to 2 p.m. Family and friends are welcome.
