Great grades and hard work in school can earn a dirt bike, discovered Puna Gallardo, 16, in the Nov. 6 KMRA race at the Wailua Motocross Track.
Kids with As and Bs on their report cards received a ticket for a chance to win one of the Suzuki dirt bikes (valued at more than $10,000) that were brought by Team WBR Suzuki and David Bailey.
Professional rider Ryan Sipes, No. 65 of Team WBR Suzuki, pulled the winning ticket belonging to Gallardo.
Gallardo, a dedicated rider at the Wailua Motocross Track, is a positive role model for the younger riders.
Tickets also were sold for a donation drawing for a second bike. Professional rider Ryan Morais, No. 76, pulled the ticket which belonged to Cindy Combs.
Combs, in turn, gave the bike to Luther Burney as a gift. Luther is an avid trail rider and also races in the KMRA motocross races.
Riders and fans were treated to some exciting races during the Nov. 6 KMRA race at the Wailua Motocross Track. Proriders Sipes, Morais, Mike Campbell (a pro-turned-mechanic) and Sean Bailey (a 250-class Amateur rider) of Team WBR Suzuki raced alongside with dirt bikers of Kauai and outer island guests.
Gear, helmets, gloves and other accessories ended up being given away to kids who were brave enough to ask for them. As Jerrid Ham Young said of the riders, “I can’t believe they were sitting right next to me and I had dinner with them.”
While many events are held on O’ahu and Maui, Kaua’i was fortunate and honored to have David Bailey and riders of the Team WBR Suzuki attend this event.
Bailey enjoyed the island and its people. His famous two-day motocross school attracts hundreds of motocross racers from all over the United States.
The local riders who attended Bailey’s school went home with greater confidence and skills in motocross riding.
